Paul Peter Ewald, FRS (Janu in Berlin, Germany – Aug in Ithaca, New York) was a German crystallographer and physicist, a pioneer of X-ray diffraction methods. 9 External links. The clarity and elegance of this book remains unmatched to these days. Of course, the interested reader can add Lima de Faria's "Historical atlas of crystallography" as well as "Fifty years of X-ray diffraction" by P.P. Basic diffraction theory has numerous important applications in solid-state physics and physical metallurgy, and this graduate-level text is the ideal introduction to the fundamentals of the discipline. Development is rigorous (throughout the book, the treatment is carried far enough to relate to experimentally observable quantities) and stress is placed on modern applications to nonstructural /5(4).
